The book which edited by McCartney et al consists of several papers by leading scholars on security and conflict transformation in response to a lead-paper written by Prof. Dr. Herbert Wulf, the former director of the Bonn International Center for Conversion (BICC). In the paper M. Najib Azca discuss the linkage and the interplay between communal violence and security sector reform that has been taking place during Indonesian transition period. He, furthermore, contends that theeruption of communal violence in Ambon (and other places of Indonesia) can be seen as a symptom of the porr performance of the security forces and simultaneously has brought some handicaps for the achievement of further step of security sector reform.[nazca]
